February 2009

I decided that since Hollis has gone through the trouble of making it a Jessica and Hollis website, that I should finally post!  We have been busy in the Miles’ household and we are about to get even busier!  We have something planned every weekend for the next six weekends! Here is what we have been up to lately…

I went home on January 31st with my good friend Mallory to go to our high school friend Jill’s baby shower.  It was so great to see some of the girls from high school and to see how beautiful Jill looked as a pregnant woman!  On February 18th at 12:58 her daughter, Lilly Renee was born.  It is so exciting that our friends are now starting to have babies!

On February 13th, my class had its Valentine’s party.  While we were in the middle of making symmetrical hearts to put our valentines in, when Hollis showed up.  I was extremely surprised and excited to see him in the classroom.  My students have been asking about him and they were delighted to see him at the door.  You could see many of them lite up with excitement as I introduced him to the class.  He decided to surprise me with lunch from Olive Garden, my favorite!  He stayed for over an hour and played games with my students at recess.  I have a video that I will try to post online.  Not only did he make my day, but he made the day of many of my students.

Last weekend was also a busy weekend.  On Thursday, Hollis had poker night with his buddies from work.  It is always a good time to have everyone over at our house.  On Friday we went to a restaurant down the street from our house to meet one of Hollis’ co-workers for drinks at a Madri Gras party.  They had a great “Louisiana” jazz band playing and tons of people!  It was a lot of fun.  On Saturday morning, I had to wake up early and drive to the Woodlands for a conference with Ron Clark, Disney’s Teacher of the Year 2000.  He was one of the most motivational speakers that I have ever heard.  My school is considered a “Ron Clark” school, most of the students know all 55 of his essential rules and we are expected to enforce them in the classroom, so it was very inspiring to hear him speak.  In case you haven’t heard of him and the school he has built, here is his website: http://www.ronclarkacademy.com/.  After the conference, I had a bachelorette party to get ready for!  My co-worker Jennifer’s bachelorette party was downtown Houston and I met her and her friends for dinner at Cheddar’s.  We had a great time!

I will keep you updated on all of the details that Hollis leaves out!  :)

Hey guys.  We’ve had a few problems getting the site switched over to www.jessicaandhollis.com, but that issue should be resolved now.  Please update your bookmarks.  Now it’s time to start posting again, I’ll update you on a few things we’ve got going on in our lives.

We just got back from our trip to Austin to visit Heidi.  We met up with Justin and Katie at Heidi’s apartment and went out to 6th street on Friday.  I think everyone had a great time.  The girls should have all sorts of pictures up on facebook soon.  I’ll try to update this post and put some here too.

Jessica and I just bought a little video camera that works well for traveling and apparently 6th street.  It’s about the size of a point and shoot camera and has an internal usb that can upload directly to the computer pretty easily (not that you care).  The only problem is that, although you all probably have at some point, we’ve never really seen ourselves after a few drinks.  It’s pretty sobering acutally.  It’s going to take some strong editing before we agree to post any of those videos on here… for everyone’s sake.  I wouldn’t have much of a problem posting the embarassing videos of Justin, Katie and Heidi though.  They probably won’t care right?

We’ve got a busy schedule ahead of us the next couple months.  The wedding season is starting again which can be good and bad.  It’s a lot of fun to go out and see our college friends that we miss, but a wedding every weekend can wear on you quickly.

Luckily, we’ve been fortunate enough to schedule a couple vacations to get away from it all.  A small group of us will be headed to Vegas for a couple nights in March.  This will be our 3rd trip to Las Vegas, and we’re very excited to show our friends around on their first trip to Sin City.   It doesn’t hurt that the hotel room on the strip is comped and our flights on Southwest were cheap.  That just leaves more money to gamble with right?

Then we’ll be spending Independence Day (July 4th) in Mexico on a cruise.  This will be another small group trip (is there a better way to travel than with your friends?).  Jessica’s never been more than a couple miles into Mexico on shopping trips and I’ve never been on a cruise so we’re pretty excited to get down there and see what it’s all about.

It’s been a long time coming but my online store just got approved to receive licensing.  I’m not quite ready to announce everything publically yet (it’s been dragging out forever so a couple weeks more shouldn’t hurt you)…but the good news is that everything should be up and running in 2009.  I’m pretty excited to get everything going.

I’m sure most of you would like to see Jessica post a little more on here…it is JessicaAndHollis.com after all.  Well, I’m working on getting her setup with a login.  I’ll try to talk her into posting after that.  Talk to you soon.
